Wheeler Wise Guys On the Road: Behind the Marketing of the Berglund Center

For the first-ever Wheeler Wise Guys On the Road, Cameron May and Fredy Wright packed up the microphones and headed to the Berglund Center to sit down with Rob Knight and Tiffany Viette for a conversation about what it really takes to market one of the busiest entertainment venues in Southwest Virginia.

It was also a chance to celebrate something pretty special. Wheeler Wise Guys and Roanoke Live are both proud recipients of The Roanoker Magazine's Silver Award for Best Local Podcast, so bringing the two shows together just felt right.

Watch our Wheeler Wise Guys episode below.

What You'll Learn

Selling tickets isn't as simple as putting up a Facebook post and hoping for the best.

In this episode, we go behind the scenes with the Berglund Center marketing team to talk about how they promote concerts, Broadway shows, family events, comedy acts, sporting events, and everything in between.

We discuss:

  • How they market dozens of different events every year.

  • How they decide where to invest their marketing budget.

  • Why every show requires a different strategy.

  • How digital advertising works alongside radio, television, social media, and other marketing channels.

  • What they've learned from promoting some of the biggest events to come through Roanoke.

Near the end of the episode, we also put Rob and Tiff on the spot with our $25,000 Marketing Challenge. We asked them one simple question:

If you had $25,000 to market a fictional concert at the Berglund Center, how would you spend it?

No preparation. No wrong answers. Just four marketers talking strategy in real time.

Keep the Conversation Going

Our visit to the Berglund Center actually resulted in two great episodes.

Before recording Wheeler Wise Guys, Cameron and Fredy joined Roanoke Live, the Berglund Center's own podcast.

That conversation focuses on digital advertising, why it doesn't have to be intimidating, common misconceptions business owners have about online marketing, and yes, a few memorable celebrity encounter stories along the way.

If you haven't watched it yet, we highly recommend checking it out after this episode.

You can find Roanoke Live on the Berglund Center's YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/@BerglundCenterRoanoke

Together, these two conversations give you a unique look at marketing from both sides. One from the perspective of a venue responsible for filling seats, and one from the perspective of the agency helping businesses grow.

Thanks for Having Us

A huge thank you to Rob Knight, Tiffany Viette, and everyone at the Berglund Center for welcoming us into the studio for our very first Wheeler Wise Guys On the Road episode.

We had a great time, shared plenty of laughs, and learned a lot from the conversation. We hope this is the first stop of many.

If you enjoy the episode, subscribe to Wheeler Wise Guys, share it with another business owner, and let us know where we should take the podcast next.
